nashik food guide (2026) - misal, lassi, and street eats

honest reviews of 14 best food spots in nashik with prices, ratings, and what to order. misal pav, lassi, chivda, and more.

· updated Mar 23, 2026

tldr: out of 14 food spots in nashik, my top 3 are peruchi wadi (best chulha misal, rs 150 for two), sri ambika (black masala misal, rs 100 per plate), and asha lassi centre (best lassi since 1956). spent around rs 3,000 across three days of eating. full reviews with prices and honest opinions below.

nashik is the misal capital of maharashtra. i don’t say that lightly. every second shop here serves some version of misal pav, and somehow most of them are genuinely good.

i spent three nights eating my way through nashik. mostly misal pav, but also lassi, jalebi, chivda, khnadeshi food, and a surprisingly good vada pav. no brand deals, no one paid me, just a guy with a stomach and zero self-control around spicy tari.

the plan was simple: hit the iconic old spots, try the places locals actually go to, and eat until i physically couldn’t anymore. mission accomplished. if you’re looking for more maharashtrian food guides, check out the best street food in nashik for part two of this trip.

the awards (my personal picks)

  • best overall: peruchi wadi. the chulha-cooked misal with the whole vineyard setting is an experience, not just a meal.
  • best misal (taste): sri ambika restaurant. that black masala tari is unlike anything else in nashik.
  • best ambiance: sadhana sulivarchi misal. rustic village vibes, outdoor seating, kids play area. feels like a mini vacation.
  • best budget bite: mauli kadhi samosa. rs 50 for kadhi samosa that genuinely works as breakfast.
  • best dessert: asha lassi centre. the kaju malai lassi and sitaphal rabdi are both elite.
  • best for takeaway: kobaji chivda. the kanda lahsun variant with onions and lemon is addictive.
  • most unique: grape embassy. misal with grape vineyard rooftop seating. the kothimbir vadi here is top tier.
  • best tea: om tea house. their shakkar (tea + milk combo) is rs 20 and tastes like old-school authentic chai.

the top tier (my regulars)

1. peruchi wadi

outskirts, nashik / rs 300 for two / 9/10

this place is about 20 minutes from the main city by auto or uber (we paid rs 180 one way). the road to get there goes through grape vineyards and green fields, which already sets the mood. the whole setup is rustic, with outdoor seating surrounded by guava trees.

the misal here is chulha-cooked, matki-based, and comes with unlimited tari in two spice levels: medium and a deep red spicy one. the pav is served warm, and they give you a big papad and dahi on the side. the tari has that proper smoky flavour you only get from wood-fire cooking. spice levels are legit, not tourist-friendly.

apart from misal, they have guava ice cream, guava lassi, and guava juice. the ice cream had a subtle, natural guava flavour that was surprisingly good.

what to order: chulha misal with both taris, guava ice cream

verdict: this is the nashik food experience. not just a meal, a whole vibe. go for breakfast or early lunch.

2. sri ambika restaurant

city centre, nashik / rs 200 for two / 8.5/10

this is where things get interesting. sri ambika is famous for their black masala misal, where the tari is literally dark black in colour. the whole place is usually crowded with a proper queue outside, so go early or be patient.

the black masala tari has a smoky, deep spice profile that hits different from every other misal in nashik. they use barik sev (fine sev), and the garam masala is prominent. the matki base is well-cooked and flavourful. the waiters keep serving tari as per your wish, which is a nice touch.

they also have a besan ladoo that’s surprisingly good, soft texture, moderately sweet. comes as an extra item but worth adding.

what to order: black masala misal, besan ladoo

verdict: the black masala tari alone makes this place worth the queue. genuinely different from every other misal.

3. asha lassi centre

city centre, nashik / rs 300 for two / 8.5/10

running since 1956, this is considered the oldest lassi shop in nashik. the place is clean and well-maintained, which is rare for heritage food shops. they serve lassi, rabdi, falooda, and milk-based drinks.

the kaju malai lassi is thick, creamy, and has that proper milky flavour that makes you forget every watery lassi you’ve ever had. the cream on top is generous. it’s one of those drinks where you take one sip thinking you’ll save the rest and end up finishing the whole glass.

the asha falooda (kulfi rabdi falooda) is loaded, at rs 150 for the regular size. the sitaphal rabdi is seasonal but if you catch it, the custard apple flavour is strong, natural, and the consistency is thick and rich.

what to order: kaju malai lassi, asha falooda, sitaphal rabdi (seasonal)

verdict: best lassi in nashik. the 1956 heritage is real, and so is the quality. don’t skip this.

4. sadhana sulivarchi misal

outskirts, nashik / rs 250 for two / 8.5/10

sadhana is as much about the experience as the food. massive outdoor seating area with simple cots and wooden tables, decorated in a rustic village style. feels like eating at a dhaba in the countryside. they have a garden, kids play area, and some activities, so it’s very family-friendly.

the misal is matki-based with both barik and gathi sev, which gives it a nice textural contrast. they serve unlimited tari in two variants (spicy and medium) from large containers that are constantly cooking near the kitchen. the garam masala is very prominent in their version.

but the real star here is the chulha dudha ice cream. two big scoops with a beautiful smoky, caramelised sweet flavour from milk simmered over a traditional wood fire. i honestly liked the ice cream more than the misal itself.

what to order: misal with both taris, chulha dudha ice cream

verdict: come for the misal, stay for the ice cream and the ambiance. best for families and weekday visits (weekends get packed).

the solid middle

5. budha halwai jalebi wale

city centre, nashik / rs 150 for two / 8/10

a proper heritage sweet shop. their jalebis are piping hot, vibrant orange, and have that perfect crispy-meets-syrupy texture. the fafda is thin, smoky, and melts in your mouth. paired with green chutney and chillies, the jalebi-fafda combo is a nashik classic.

the dhokla here is soft, spongy, and garnished with coriander and mustard seeds. they also do batata jalebi for fasting days and ulta vada pav. solid all around.

what to order: jalebi-fafda combo, dhokla

verdict: old-school sweet shop done right. don’t overthink it, just get the jalebi-fafda.

6. hotel shrinivas khandeshi tadka

city centre, nashik / rs 400 for two / 8/10

if you’ve never had khandeshi food, this is a good introduction. the sev bhaji (thick version called latpat) is smoky, perfectly salted, and pairs beautifully with their rustic chapatis. the bharit wangya (roasted brinjal) with jowar-bajra bhakri is genuinely a different flavour profile from anything else in nashik.

the wangya uses green brinjal (the khandeshi specialty), and the peanut-garlic-chilli combo creates this deep, earthy flavour that’s hard to describe. it’s not your standard baingan bharta.

what to order: sev bhaji latpat, bharit wangya with bhakri

verdict: for something different from misal, this is the move. earthy, smoky, and honest khandeshi food.

7. grape embassy

outskirts, nashik / rs 300 for two / 7.5/10

located a bit away from the main city with grape vineyards on the rooftop. very romantic, green, and peaceful. the seating is outdoor with air coolers.

the misal here is called “jhatka misal,” where they serve boiled matki and sev together and you add tari per preference. it’s on the spicier side but flavour-wise nothing particularly unique compared to the top spots.

the real reason to come here is the kothimbir vadi. generous quantity, perfectly sized cubes, crispy outside, fresh coriander flavour inside, with roasted sesame seeds adding a smoky touch. the chutney pairing was sharp and vibrant. this was genuinely one of the best kothimbir vadis i’ve had.

what to order: kothimbir vadi (absolutely), jhatka misal

verdict: misal is decent but the kothimbir vadi is the real star. worth the trip for the vineyard vibes.

8. mauli kadhi samosa

city centre, nashik / rs 100 for two / 7.5/10

this is a unique nashik concept: deep-fried samosa sitting in a bowl of hot kadhi, topped with sev and laal chutney. rs 50 for the kadhi samosa. the kadhi is thick, warm, and tastes like kadhi pakoda minus the pakoda. the samosa itself is fresh, crispy, perfectly flavoured aloo filling.

the moong bhaji at rs 35 is another winner. deep fried, super crunchy outside, tender inside, with a smoky ajwain-jeera flavour. dip it in the kadhi and it’s a proper breakfast.

this is a popular morning spot so go early. they also have dosa, idli, upma, and medu vada.

what to order: kadhi samosa, moong bhaji with kadhi

verdict: uniquely nashik. rs 85 for both items and you’ve had a complete breakfast. no complaints.

9. hotel durga

city area, nashik / rs 300 for two / 7.5/10

the main branch is in kothrud, pune, but the nashik outlet near some colleges has the same college-canteen energy. lots of young crowd, you might need to wait for a seat on busy days. they have outdoor standing tables near the kitchen and upstairs seating.

the bread pakoda is their bestseller, regular ingredients but fresh and hot makes it work. the vada rassa with pav is simple but the spice is good. the real surprise was the thick cold coffee, perfect coffee flavour, right sweetness, and thick consistency that most places can’t replicate. the bun maska with chai combo is smooth and silky.

what to order: bread pakoda, thick cold coffee, bun maska with chai

verdict: college canteen vibes and honest food. nothing fancy, just solid comfort food at decent prices.

10. kobaji chivda

indira nagar, nashik / rs 200 for a packet / 7.5/10

every city has its takeaway snack and nashik’s is chivda. kobaji is the most well-known brand here with three factory outlets. the kanda lahsun chivda is sweet-spicy-crunchy and works great as-is or as bhel with chopped onions, lemon, and coriander.

they have multiple variants. the uttam chivda in the half-kg packet (around rs 150-250) is their flagship. it’s a proper snack to carry back home.

what to order: kanda lahsun chivda, uttam chivda

verdict: not a restaurant but an essential nashik purchase. your family will thank you.

the ones to try if you have time

11. om tea house

city centre, nashik / rs 40 for two / 7/10

their “shakkar” is one cup of tea and one cup of milk mixed together. it’s rs 20 for two glasses and tastes like the authentic chai you remember from old restaurants. strong tea, strong milk, perfect milk ratio.

12. puffs and rolls

city centre, nashik / rs 150 for two / 7/10

a bakery with decent puffs, cakes, and muffins. the puff is flaky and crumbly, the korean burn cup looked good. nothing extraordinary but a nice break between misal spots.

13. raut soda

city centre, nashik / rs 50 for two / 7/10

running since 1947. they serve various soda flavours but the jeera masala soda is their OG. you can have it sweet or only salty. it’s basic but after eating 4 misals in a day, this jeera soda is exactly what your stomach needs.

14. samarth juice centre

city centre, nashik / rs 100 for two / 6.5/10

pineapple juice with ice cream is apparently a popular combo among locals. it’s sweet-sour, refreshing, and the pineapple ice cream has tiny fruit chunks. a nice find but not something i’d travel for specifically.

nashik food tips

  • most misal places serve unlimited tari, so start with the medium and work your way up to the spicy one. your stomach will thank you.
  • go to peruchi wadi and sadhana on weekdays. weekends are packed with tourists and families.
  • uber works fine in nashik. most outskirt places cost rs 150-200 one way from the city.
  • carry antacids. three days of misal pav will test your digestive system regardless of your spice tolerance.
  • morning is the best time for misal. most places are freshest between 8-11am.
  • nashik in grape season (december-march) means you can combine food with vineyard visits.
