Gulshan da Punjabi Dhaba Shahdara Delhi in short
An evening-only, almost entirely non-vegetarian dhaba in East Delhi, listed in places under the family’s other name, Gulshan Meat Corner. Service starts around 6 pm and runs to roughly 11:15–11:30 pm, a window of about five hours. Tuesday is the weekly off, which shuts the kitchen 52 days a year. It sits beside the Shahdara taxi stand, below the flyover carrying traffic towards Meerut. Anchor prices from the August check: mutton kebab roll (2 pieces) ₹150, juicy tikka ₹250, bheja ₹250, butter chicken ₹450 half and ₹860 full.
Prices and daily availability at a small kitchen move constantly. The date stamp on every figure below is the point of it.

Where it is and how to reach it
Navigate by landmark. The dhaba sits on the stretch by the Shahdara taxi stand, alongside Gulshan Meat Corner, beneath the flyover that carries through-traffic towards Meerut.
That flyover is the detail most people get wrong. Traffic heading for the Delhi–Meerut Expressway and the NH-9 corridor, both in the National Highways Authority of India project records, passes overhead. Stay on it and you sail straight past. Come down to street level and approach the taxi stand from below.
It behaves like a highway dhaba dropped into a dense neighbourhood, in the Khureji and Seelampur belt of Jamna Paar, the Delhi east of the Yamuna.
For metro users, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation network map puts Shahdara on the Red Line, the Rithala to Shaheed Sthal run, with Kashmere Gate and Welcome as its interchanges. Welcome is one stop along and meets the Pink Line. Both stations need a last-mile auto. Agree the fare first.
Parking is what a taxi stand implies: kerbside, shared with autos and pickup vehicles, tighter as the evening builds. After 8 pm, a two-wheeler or a cab drop is the easier arrival. Our East Delhi non-veg map sets out the wider approach from Anand Vihar and GT Road, and the Shahdara late-night eating guide covers what else on this stretch runs past 10 pm.
Name disambiguation matters here. Listings surface as Gulshan da Punjabi Dhaba, as Gulshan Meat Corner, and colloquially as “Gulshan kharode wala”, one family operation across adjacent units. Check the Google Maps pin against the taxi-stand landmark rather than against the name.

Timings, weekly off and the Sawan crowd swing
Both service points, the indoor tandoor kitchen and the outdoor live counter, start around 6 pm. There is no lunch service.
Closing is reported at two times, 11:15 pm and 11:30 pm. Treat 11 pm as your working cut-off for a full order. Tandoor items are cooked to order, so a late arrival is the order most likely to be refused.
Tuesday is the weekly off.
Sawan (Shravan) is the calendar variable worth planning around: a lunar month of roughly 29 days falling across July and August, when many households in the area abstain from meat. Demand across East Delhi’s non-veg belt drops for the duration and rises sharply once it ends. The dates shift each year, so check the current panchang.
During Sawan, or on a weekday before 8 pm, seating and waiting time are least likely to be the constraint. In the fortnight after Sawan, plan a parcel order.

The full menu with prices
The menu splits across two service points, and it helps to order with that split in mind.
| Counter | Item | Price (Aug 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Tandoor / grill | Juicy tikka | ₹250 |
| Gravies | Butter chicken (half) | ₹450 |
| Gravies | Butter chicken (full) | ₹860 |
| Rolls | Mutton kebab roll (2 pcs) | ₹150 |
| Rolls | Chicken roll (2 pcs) | ₹150 |
| Offal counter | Bheja (goat brain) | ₹250 |
Two halves of butter chicken come to ₹900, so the full plate at ₹860 saves ₹40 on the same dish.
Priced on the board, not confirmed here. Tandoor and grill: tandoori chicken in leg-thigh pieces, chicken tikka, bhatti tikka, Afghani malai tikka, pudina tikka, chicken tangdi Afghani, seekh kebab, mutton kebab. Gravies: handi chicken, kadhai chicken, tawa chicken, Changezi chicken, mutton gravy, chicken belly with keema stuffing. Offal counter: kharode soup, mutton kalechi. Breads: khameeri roti, rumali roti.
Rupee rates on mutton and chicken track wholesale meat rates, which move week to week, so a gap of a few months makes any list like this indicative. Ask whether a ₹250 item is priced per plate or per portion. That distinction changes a four-person bill more than any single price does.

What handi chicken actually means
Handi is the vessel, not the recipe. A narrow-necked pot, clay or metal, whose shape traps steam and cooks a mixed loading slowly under its own moisture.
On this menu it means a mixed handi: seekh kebab, mutton kalechi, mutton and chicken in one pot, finished with a boiled egg. That is the older composition. The modern shorthand is simpler, chicken in gravy with keema stirred through. Both are sold under the same name across Delhi, so ask what goes in the pot.
Order it from four people upward. For one protein done one way, take tawa chicken or kadhai chicken.
The offal names are standard North Indian and Old Delhi preparations. Kalechi is liver. Bheja is goat brain. Kharode is trotter, the joint and shin, simmered for hours until the collagen breaks into the broth. Kharode soup is conventionally a winter dish, which makes its presence on an outdoor counter through summer the unusual part. More in our guide to Delhi’s offal and soup counters.
| Traditional mixed handi | Common modern “handi chicken” | |
|---|---|---|
| Meats | Seekh kebab, mutton kalechi, mutton, chicken | Chicken only |
| Added element | Boiled egg | Keema in the gravy |
| Cooking | Slow steam in a covered narrow-necked pot | Finished in a karahi, served in a handi |
| Serves | Shared, whole-table | Single-protein curry portion |
Why khameeri roti is unusual at a Punjabi dhaba
Khameer means leaven. Khameeri roti is a flatbread whose dough ferments with a starter for hours before it meets the tandoor wall, which separates it from unleavened tandoori roti and from naan raised with quick-acting agents. The long ferment builds the gluten network and fills it with gas, so the bread stays pliable rather than crisping. It is built to be torn and used with wet dishes.
Its home is Mughlai cooking: in Delhi, the Jama Masjid, Matia Mahal, Chandni Chowk and Nizamuddin kitchens, where it is the default bread alongside qorma and nihari.
Punjabi dhabas run a different bread list almost without exception. That is why its appearance on the board at Gulshan da Punjabi Dhaba Shahdara Delhi is worth flagging before you order.
| Bread | Leavening | Origin cuisine | Typical pairing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Khameeri roti | Starter-fermented over hours | Mughlai / Old Delhi | Qorma, nihari, thick gravies |
| Tandoori roti | Unleavened | Punjabi dhaba standard | Any gravy or dry dish |
| Naan | Quick leavening, refined flour | Punjabi / Mughlai crossover | Butter chicken, kebabs |
| Rumali roti | Unleavened, griddled thin | Mughlai, now dhaba standard | Wrapping kebab rolls |
Order accordingly. Khameeri with butter chicken, mutton gravy or the handi; rumali is the wrap the kebab rolls are built in. Our Old Delhi Mughlai guide covers the counters where khameeri is baked all day.
How the kitchen works and what to order because of it
Two service points, two different waits. The outdoor live counter runs kharode, bheja and mutton gravy in large held pots. The indoor kitchen has the tandoor, the large tawa and the karahi.
On colour, the establishment states that the red in its tikka comes from Kashmiri degi mirch and the yellow from turmeric and yellow chilli, with no added food colour. That is stated practice, not independently verified. The question gets asked because FSSAI standards permit specified synthetic colours in certain food categories, and the same regulations require the FSSAI licence to be displayed on the premises. Worth a glance on arrival.
Marination and masalas are batched ahead of service, per the operators. Skewered kebabs are made to the dhaba’s spec off-site and finished in-house on the tandoor. Mint for the pudina tikka is described as roasted on the premises, and the Afghani malai tikka is built on a cashew-and-cream base. Those two facts sit behind the price gap between tikka variants.
Rolls are assembled from a freshly cut kebab with spiced onion, Amul cream and butter, wrapped in rumali roti, and never returned to the grill.
The consequence is timing. Tandoor items stretch out at peak. Gravies and counter items are held and packed fast, which is what to ask for at 10:30 pm.

How to plan an order for 2, 4 and 6 people
All totals are arithmetic from the August 2026 prices, before taxes and packing.
| Group | Suggested order | Priced items |
|---|---|---|
| 2 people | Half butter chicken + one tikka plate + breads | ₹450 + ₹250 = ₹700 plus breads |
| 4 people | Full butter chicken + a mixed handi + one kebab roll order + breads | ₹860 + ₹150 = ₹1,010 plus handi and breads |
| 6+ people | The above plus kharode soup, bheja and a second gravy | Add ₹250 for bheja plus counter items |
That works out at ₹350 a head for two and about ₹253 a head for four, breads and handi still to come.
Vegetarians should treat this as a meat kitchen with an offal counter attached and call to ask what is available.
Confirm on the ground whether UPI is accepted, how many seats there are, whether parcels carry a charge, and whether the kitchen is taking Zomato or Swiggy orders that evening.

The family and the 1991 licence
The operators describe a business running on a licence taken in 1991, which puts it at roughly 35 years and into a third generation. It is named for the founder, Gulshan Lal, which is why the meat shop and the dhaba share the name. Trade licence and registration entries for East Delhi premises are searchable through the MCD’s online services, which is where that date can be checked rather than taken on trust.
The stated expansion path runs from one shop to several adjacent units on the same stretch. That layout is the reason the offal counter operates outdoors.
Nearby in Shahdara and Jamna Paar
Shahdara sits inside East Delhi’s non-vegetarian belt, alongside clusters at Seelampur, Jaffrabad, Krishna Nagar, Gandhi Nagar and Laxmi Nagar. All six are within a short drive for anyone building an evening route across Jamna Paar, with Vivek Vihar and Dilshad Garden on the same Red Line spine.
One correction for searchers. The Gulshan Dhaba that dominates results for this name is on the NH-44 Murthal corridor in Haryana, an unrelated business about 50 km north-west. If a listing shows a highway location outside Delhi, it is not this one. Our Delhi butter chicken origins explainer covers the other name collision that trips up first-time orderers.
