· updated Mar 23, 2026

tldr: my top 5 from 15 street food spots - soni uncle (sector 27d, best samosa and hot dog, rs 10-40), amarjeet chinese food corner (sector 32d, best street chinese, rs 70-120), rahul chaat (sector 32d, best vada pav and golgappe, rs 40-50), garg chaat bhandar (sector 15, best tikki, rs 30-50), and kamal & kamal (best stuffed patties, rs 70-80). full reviews with prices and honest opinions below.

chandigarh street food is not what you expect if you’re coming from delhi or mumbai. there are no narrow lanes bursting with vendors competing for your attention. this is a planned city. even the street food follows a grid. vendors set up in specific sectors, usually near markets or colleges, and they keep their spots for decades. some of these stalls have been feeding five generations of the same families. that’s not a metaphor. one uncle literally told me his fifth-generation customers still show up.

i spent around rs 800 across all the spots on this list in a single evening trail. nobody paid me. nobody gave me free food. i ate, i paid, i’m telling you what’s worth it. chandigarh street food is absurdly cheap by 2026 standards. samosas for rs 10. hot dogs for rs 40. a full plate of chowmein that feeds two for rs 120. if you’re spending more than rs 500 on a street food crawl here, you’re either feeding a group or doing something wrong.

if you’re looking for proper sit-down restaurants, i’ve got a separate guide for best restaurants in chandigarh. and if cafes are your thing, check the chandigarh cafes guide.

the awards (my personal picks)

  • best overall: soni uncle in sector 27d. five generations of customers. samosas fried fresh on order. rs 10. the man is 70 years old and still frying.
  • best chinese street food: amarjeet chinese food corner in sector 32d. 14 years running. clean counter, proper desi chowmein, everything under rs 170.
  • best vada pav: rahul chaat in sector 32d. rs 40, lahsun chutney that burns, 12 vada pavs going at once during rush hour.
  • best budget bite: soni uncle. rs 10 samosas. rs 10 bread pakoda. rs 40 hot dogs. you do the math.
  • best stuffed patty: kamal & kamal. rs 70-80 for a grilled stuffed patty that’s genuinely filling. the paneer pizza patty is absurd in the best way.
  • best tikki: garg chaat bhandar in sector 15. the classic that’s been around since the 1970s.
  • most overrated: sector 17 food stalls in general. the prices are higher, the crowds are tourist-heavy, and the food isn’t better than sector 22 or 32d options.
  • best for a full trail: sector 32d market. chinese, chaat, vada pav, patties - all within walking distance, all under rs 150 per item, and there’s actual parking.

the top tier (my regulars)

1. soni uncle

sector 27d / rs 10-40 per item / 9/10

this is the spot that convinced me chandigarh’s best street food isn’t in the famous sectors. soni uncle has been frying samosas, bread pakodas, hot dogs, and tikki from a tiny setup in sector 27d for over 46 years. the man is in his 70s. his wife prepares all the stuffing and dough at home. everything is made fresh, right in front of you, only when you order. there’s no pre-fried stock sitting around getting soggy.

the hot dog is the standout. rs 40 for a properly crispy, freshly fried hot dog with aloo stuffing and green chutney served on newspaper. i know that sounds basic. it is basic. and it’s one of the best things i’ve eaten in chandigarh. you can’t find this style of hot dog easily anymore. it’s an old-school street snack that’s disappeared from most cities but survives here because one 70-year-old sardar ji refuses to stop making them.

the samosas are rs 10 each. perfectly triangular, freshly fried, stuffed with spiced potato. the bread pakoda is rs 10. the tikki is rs 10. at these prices, ordering one of everything is the correct move. the whole setup is outside a house in a residential gali near ramgarhia bhawan. no signage, no google maps pin that’s easy to find. ask for “soni uncle samose wale” and locals will point you there.

timing: 4:30 pm to 9:30 pm, seven days a week. he takes an “emergency holiday” sometimes, but mostly he’s there. first come, first served. if someone orders 500 samosas before you, you’re waiting. he won’t skip your turn though.

what to order: hot dog, samosa, bread pakoda. get all three. total damage: rs 60.

verdict: the most honest street food in chandigarh. no frills, no pretension, just a 70-year-old uncle frying things perfectly for 46 years. five generations of families keep coming back. those people aren’t wrong.

2. amarjeet chinese food corner

sector 32d market / rs 60-120 per item / 8.5/10

amarjeet has been running this chinese stall in the sector 32d market for 14 years, since 2012. the stall is pure vegetarian and the counter is noticeably clean by street food standards. everything is made fresh in front of you. the chowmein is the star - rs 120 for a full plate that genuinely feeds two people. it’s the thin noodle variety, the proper desi-chinese kind from your childhood, fried with vegetables in hot oil. not the thick soggy type. the flavor comes from the wok and the oil and the vegetables hitting high heat, and once you start eating you won’t want to stop.

the spring rolls are rs 70 for two pieces, stuffed with chowmein filling, deep fried until crispy. the back end where it’s sealed is the crunchiest part. the momos are solid, especially the malai momos which are creamy and different from the standard steamed variety. chilli potato, manchurian, everything on the menu is under rs 170. the highest priced item i could see was rs 170. for a college area market, the prices are kept deliberately affordable.

the sector 32d market has a college nearby, so it’s primarily a student crowd. that keeps prices honest. there are easily 10-12 food stalls in this stretch, but amarjeet is where the crowd is thickest. there’s ample parking space for cars, which is a rare luxury for chandigarh street food spots.

timing: 4:30 pm to 11:30 pm, all days.

what to order: chowmein (rs 120), spring roll (rs 70 for two), malai momos.

verdict: the best chinese street food in chandigarh. clean, cheap, filling, and the chowmein has that exact desi-chinese flavor you’ve been chasing since school. rs 120 for two people to eat properly. do the math and weep.

3. rahul chaat

sector 32d market / rs 40-50 per item / 8.5/10

rahul chaat is in the same sector 32d market stretch as amarjeet chinese, so you can hit both in one trip. the menu covers every chaat category you can think of: golgappe, bhel puri, pav bhaji, chaat papdi, dahi papdi, sev puri, aloo tikki, and - this is the interesting part - vada pav and noodle burger.

the vada pav is rs 40 and comes with a lahsun (garlic) chutney that is seriously spicy. like, “remember that one chutney from that one video” level spicy. the vada is freshly fried, the pav is soft, and the chutney ties it together. during peak hours, they’re making 12 vada pavs simultaneously, which means turnover is fast and you’re always getting a hot one. the noodle burger is rs 50 - a tikki made with noodles, green chutney, tandoori mayo, onions, all stuffed in a bun. it’s absurd and filling and somehow it works.

the stall was apparently started by the current owner’s father who used to set up in sector 17 before. the name “rahul chaat” is relatively new but the family has been doing this for a while. the golgappe here use atta puris with proper spicy-sour pani. standard chandigarh style. the paneer kulcha is another option if you want something more substantial.

timing: 4:00 pm to 11:00 pm, all days.

what to order: vada pav (rs 40), noodle burger (rs 50), golgappe.

verdict: the most versatile chaat stall in sector 32d. the vada pav is the headliner but everything is solid. the lahsun chutney alone is worth the trip. if you can handle spice.

4. garg chaat bhandar

sector 15 / rs 30-50 per item / 8.5/10

garg chaat bhandar has been the sector 15 institution since the 1970s. this is probably the most well-known street food name in chandigarh, and for once the reputation matches reality. the aloo tikki is the move here. crispy on the outside, soft potato on the inside, topped with chole, chutneys, yogurt, and sev. rs 40 for a plate that makes you question why anyone pays rs 200 for the same thing at a restaurant.

the golgappe are the other essential. rs 30 for a round of proper tangy-spicy pani puri. the pani has that exact balance where your mouth is burning slightly but you immediately want the next one. the papdi chaat and dahi bhalla are reliable too. this is the stall that chandigarh families have been bringing their kids to for decades.

what to order: aloo tikki (rs 40), golgappe (rs 30).

verdict: the sector 15 legend. the tikki is the benchmark for every other tikki stall in chandigarh. old school, no gimmicks, just properly made chaat.

the solid middle

5. kamal & kamal

sector 32d area / rs 70-80 per item / 8/10

kamal & kamal is a patty shop, and in chandigarh, patties are a whole category of street food. the stuffed patties here are grilled on a flat grill (not deep fried), which gives them a crispy exterior that’s different from the typical fried patty. the paneer pizza patty at rs 80 is their best seller - stuffed with paneer and cheese, grilled until the outside is properly crisp, cut in half so the stuffing oozes out.

the patty is large enough that eating a whole one will make you “slightly horizontal” as my friend put it. rs 70-80 for a single patty that’s genuinely filling is solid value. they also do burgers, shakes, wraps, pasta, pizza, and cakes, but the patties are why people come here. the board outside lists every variety and the crowd inside at any given time is primarily patty-focused.

what to order: paneer pizza patty (rs 80), cheese patty (rs 70).

verdict: the best patty in chandigarh. grilled, stuffed, filling, and under rs 100. if you’ve never had a chandigarh-style stuffed patty, this is your introduction.

6. brothers dhaba

sector 22 / rs 80 per plate / 8/10

brothers dhaba is the chole bhature spot in sector 22’s inner market. rs 80 for a plate of fluffy bhature with thick, spicy chole, raw onion, and pickle. the bhature puff up properly - the way they should - and the chole have that slow-simmered overnight quality. this is breakfast food technically, but the evening crowd is just as heavy.

sector 22 inner market is where chandigarh’s densest street food concentration is, and brothers is the anchor. once you’re done here, you can walk to kulfi king, brijwasi chaat, and lakshmi misthan bhandar without crossing a street.

what to order: chole bhature (rs 80). that’s it. that’s the menu.

verdict: the chole bhature essential. rs 80 for a plate that’ll keep you full for four hours. no pretension, no innovation, just chole bhature done correctly.

7. sindhi sweets

sector 17 / rs 25-40 per item / 8/10

sindhi sweets is technically a sweet shop but the street food counter is what makes it relevant here. the golgappe have thin crispy puris with perfectly balanced spicy pani. the aloo tikki is loaded. the samosa at rs 25 is one of the best in sector 17 - crispy, properly stuffed, served hot. the gulab jamun and barfi counter is for your post-meal sugar fix.

the catch is that there’s barely any seating. you eat standing or take away. during evening rush, the crowd can get intense. but for a quick sector 17 snack, this is the spot.

what to order: samosa (rs 25), golgappe (rs 30), aloo tikki.

verdict: the best chaat counter in sector 17. buy mithai on the way out for the hotel. you’ll thank yourself later.

8. kulfi king

sector 22 / rs 40-60 per serving / 8/10

kulfi king does kulfi falooda and malai kulfi from a small counter in sector 22. the kulfi is dense, creamy, and properly set - not the icy kind that’s more frozen milk than kulfi. the falooda version at rs 60 is the move. layered with vermicelli, sabja seeds, rose syrup, and a thick slab of kulfi on top. it’s essentially a dessert meal.

chandigarh summers are brutal and this is where half the city comes for relief. the winter crowd is smaller but dedicated. kulfi king has been here for years and the recipe hasn’t changed, which in kulfi terms is the highest compliment.

what to order: kulfi falooda (rs 60).

verdict: the best kulfi in chandigarh. rs 60 for a kulfi falooda that’s better than most kulfi parlors. end your street food trail here.

9. gopal’s

sector 8 / rs 80-100 per plate / 8/10

gopal’s is technically a restaurant but the chole bhature and rajma chawal are pure street food energy. rs 80-100 for a plate of chole bhature where the bhature are fluffy and the chole have proper depth. the rajma chawal at rs 80 is comfort food done right. university students and government employees eat here side by side. basic setup, no air conditioning in the old section, limited menu. exactly the kind of place where the food quality and prices make the lack of ambience irrelevant.

what to order: chole bhature (rs 80-100), rajma chawal (rs 80).

verdict: budget eating at its best. sector 8’s answer to “where do i eat when i have rs 100 and want to eat like a king.”

the ones i’d skip (but you might not)

10. hot millions

sector 17 / rs 100-150 per item / 7/10

hot millions is a chandigarh institution but it’s more fast food than street food. the tandoori chicken is real tandoor, not oven-baked, which puts it above chain equivalents. the milkshakes are thick. but at rs 100-150 per item, you’re paying sector 17 premium for what is essentially dressed-up street food. the pizza and pasta are forgettable. come for the tandoori wrap and leave.

verdict: fine if you’re already in sector 17 and need a quick bite. not worth a separate trip.

11. jugaad

sector 7 / rs 50-80 per item / 6.5/10

jugaad does “flavored golgappe” with unusual fillings and fancy pani variations. it’s the instagram-friendly version of golgappe. the concept is cute. the execution is inconsistent. some flavors work, some are trying too hard. at rs 50-80 for what is essentially golgappe with extra steps, i’d rather go to garg chaat bhandar and get the real thing for rs 30.

verdict: skip unless you want content for social media. the regular golgappe stalls are better and cheaper.
